foolproof sugar cookie recipe | I am really sorry about not posting for quite some time. Unfortunately, baking and cooking had to take a backseat during the last few weeks (or should I rather say months *cough*) and I have to admit that I missed it quite a lot. Ever since my childhood I loved to bake and always considered it to be a fun activity – and even more so, when you have company.  Therefore, to make these lovely sugar cookies I got myself some support by two baking experts (my sister and my nephew Riley).

sugar cookies | easy and foolproof recipe This recipe is very easy to make. You can prepare the dough about a day in advance, leave it in the fridge and just take it out whenever you need it.  Foolproof sugar cookie recipes | nowaddsugarThe easiest way to make the dough for flaky sugar cookies is by using a pastry cutter. You just dump all of the ingredients into a big bowl and blend everything together until you get a pliable and smooth dough. The pastry cutter prevents the butter from melting and also helps not to overmix. I bought mine at TK Maxx (The German equivalent of TJ Maxx) for about 2.50 Euro. However, I am sure you will be able to find a cheap one at Ross or Target at any time.

Sugar Cookies

  • 1 stick of butter (cold)
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup of cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder

  1. Put all of the ingredients into a big bowl.
  2. Use your hands or a pastry cutter to make a dough.
  3. Wrap the dough into cling wrap and let it rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350° F (180° C).
  5. Roll out dough on a floured surface and cut it into shapes.
  6. Place the cookies on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper.
  7. Bake for 6 - 8 minutes or until the edges start to brown.

To make the icing just mix together icing sugar with some lemon juice and tint with your favorite colors (I used gel colors) and decorate with sugar sprinkles and candy.

x, Mina
